one more 25 acp question
« on: February 20, 2005, 02:21:35 PM »
actually a couple. I  ordered my 25 acp conversion last Monday. I was wondering about how long it takes to get it for starters. Plus does anyone have their numbers for what I need for a shell holder for my Lee press and my Lee autoprime to be able to prime the brass I got from Midway? I would prefer Lee but any and all help will be appreciated. Looking forward to trying it out soon.

Thanks Guys for any and all help

It took about 1 week to get mine. The shell holders you will need are,  Lee #15 but its the Universal Shellholder Holder. If you can't find LEE. RCBS #29 or Lyman #32, and a #15 for the Lee autoprime.  :D

Why doesn't NEF just make a primer carrier to fit 25ACP?

I think what you meant is; why do they not make a BREECHPLUG to fit the .25ACP? Most manufacturers will not as reloading the .25ACP is an extra step that they won't include in their design. The 209 primer is available and can just be used as is so they picked it but didn't think about the fact that it is too hot for muzzleloaders the way it is designed for shotgun shells. Now Remington is supposed to have addressed the problem and come out with a "Kleenbore new muzzleloader 209 primer". Time will tell if that is true.

Keith Lewis, I don't think they don't want the shooter to have to reload 25ACP cases and they would have one more step in there process.

I finally got the shell holders I needed to prime some 25 brass. I used cci pistol primers since I had a brick of them for my pistol loading. Anyway I got it out today and went to the range. It was a balmy 33 here so a greatday for it. I was using ffg 777 loose 90 grains with 250 grain shockwaves and hornady sst which by the way are the exact same bullets as shock wavs are made by hornady.  Anyway I noticed toghter groups at 50 and 1200 yards at 50 all 5 were touching and at 100 about 1.5 inch group of 4.  I could shoot at least 4 times without having to clean the crud ring, which is far better than the after every shot I used to have to do. I also tried some american pioneer with poor results all the way around. Since I am not worried aboout swabbing a barrel at the range, I am very happy. Being able to shoot 4 times without swabbing is awesome for a day of hunting for me. So, I guess the conversion gets a thumbs up from me.

Bubba: Interesting that you used the pistol primers instead of the small rifle that the conversion recommends. What rifle are you shooting? I cannot get that kind of second and third shot capability in my stainless Omega. Most that seem to get decent results with 777 are using the fffg instead of the ffg. Maybe I should try my ffg with pistol primers.

Keith I have an encore 209x50.  I have been shooting sootbelchers for years and always liked the coarser grainer powders. Just my personal preference.  Waiting for better weather so I can get out the chronograph and see what they are doing. The weird part was with a 240 saboted bullet and 245 power belts, I could hardly keep them on the paper. But 250 was the ticket. The other part I forgot to add wa sI was using harvester sabots not the ones that come with the sst's and shockwaves. This tightened me up some also before I switched to the 25 conversion.

Bubba have any trouble with misfires I have to be carefull swabbing my encore or I'll get missfires I usually just fire a primer  after I swab it. Do the harvester load any easier I bought some but haven't had a chance to use them I can't use the SST's with the sabot that came  with them  load too hard I use cci #450

I always pull the breech plug and swab and dry well when I do it. No I had no problems with misfires. I think because of the method I swab with. Yes the harvester sabots go down the neck much easier. I have always liked their sabots and have had better luck with them no matter what bullet I shoot
