... "My son is an electrical engineering major at the University of Illinois-Chicago campus and an Illinois National Guardsmen."

"He thinks that the National Guard does not afford him an adequate opportunity for rifle marksmanship, and felt that the purchase of this [AR-15A2] would accomplish two objectives." ...

"My son decided he would purchase this firearm and presented his valid Illinois firearm owners identification (FOID) card along with a valid credit card to complete the deal."

"The gun dealer saw his Chicago address and perturbedly asserted that he could not sell such a weapon to a person with a Chicago address. I told the gun dealer that there is no such state law ..."

"The dealer reluctantly conceded this to be true, but he went on to say that Mayor Daley's lawsuits and undercover investigations had created such a hostile atmosphere toward law-abiding gun dealers that he feared selling such a weapon to anyone who lived in Chicago. ..." ...

What you described to me sounds like an excellent "backdoor gun controll policy"
When a retailer is afraid to sell because of things like this it is a sad day here in America.

I'm not sure I understand why you think that gun control is inherently racist? It's largest effort's and most success is in areas where most people don't hunt and have lot's of cop's, that alway's show up late, and these people live a life they see as civilized. I think a better way to describe gun control is that it is born of ignorance, on the part of the people and it's a product of fear with government. Which government wouldn't like to disarm it's citizens and why would they want to? It was armed citizens that rose up and threw England out on their butts.

That gun control is rascist is not necessarily my accusation.  The accusation is out there, however, and my point was that one can see why with this story.  This policy would directly lead to a law-abiding minority person living in Chicago having a very hard time exercising his 2d amendment rights.  

Actually some of the first attempts at gun control in the US were aimed at disarming blacks in the south in the nineteenth century.

Well I just read that thing again and I don't find anything relating to race. The issue is the right of ALL law abiding people, reguardless of race, to keep gun's period. I don't believe it matter's what you keep them for, we have a right to keep them guarenteed by the constitution.

I agree with you.  However, when it comes to Chicago and the demographics of it's population, some who make the race accusation (not me, as I see gun control simply as a common sense and constitutional issue), would see that aspect to this story.  If the policy is to deny guns to citizens of Chicago, you're denying guns disproportionally to minorities.  I know that if I were forced to live in a high-crime area in Chicago, I wouldn't want any impediments to my right to be armed.

By the way, if folks want to interpret gun control that way, I say go ahead, it can only help our cause.

Your right Mauser. I grew up in Illinois. Old man Daley pushed for the Firearms ID card to try and control how many of the blacks could buy guns.
