Thompson Encore Katahdin 209x50 barrel
« on: March 09, 2005, 02:48:12 AM »
:roll:
I was wondering if anyone has had or used a Thompson Encore Katahdin 209x50 barrel. I'm in need of a new black powder barrel and trying to make up my mind on this configuration but can’t find much info on it. Also if this barrel doesn't get much positive response what is the advantage of 45 cal. over 50 cal?
Thanks for any input.

Well you can take this with a grain of salt since I myself don't have a 209x50.  I did just buy a katahdin barrel from a dealer in NE Iowa and I tried to trade a Knight MK85 frontloader to him.  He was lukewarm at best to the deal.  He said that he gets so many Knights in on trade that it wasn't worth anything to him.  He said everybody is getting rid of them in favor of the Encores and Omegas because they shoot good and are easier to clean.  Don't know about your caliber question but like I said earlier, take it with a grain of salt.  It is just what one dealer said to me.  tctrav

Tctrav;
Thanks for the information; Always liked Thompson encore over any other makes, but that just my preference.

i believe the katahdin only comes in .50.i have a ss 209x50 26" now,i will prob sell or trade ,but i will definately have one of these katahdin's before hunting season.
 the advantage of the .45 is reduced recoil and a little more muzzle velocity with a lighter ,bullet therefore flater trajectory.
 i'll stick with my .50 caliber wether it be a long one or short one.
