« on: March 06, 2005, 07:20:53 AM »
just bought a new t/c encore barrel in .405 winchester in the 24" length , and a box of 300 gr. sp ( spire point ) shells.

i've heard a lot of good things about this cartridge and was wondering if anybody else here has had any experience with it , or has any not very well known info on it.
give me a holla if you do  :-)  :-)

Congrat's on the new barrel!

I have been looking at that one myself.  Just read a good article about the .405 in Rifle's Handloading (mont before last issue I think) and got my interest going.

I like that you can load it from .41mag levels on up not to mention that T.R. used that caliber

Got one for CHRISTmas.  Have only shot about 25 rds through  it so far and 20 of them were in 1 sitting.  I love it - It has kick because of the light weight in an Encore, but not too bad at all.  I put a Bushnell 2-7x32 Elite 3200 scope on it.  Shots 16-20 through the barrel were shot at 100 yds with Hornadies 300gr SP factory loads and made a 1.65 " group off a good rest.

I am anxious to load for it and shoot some more.  I am thinkin it has a few whitetails in its future!
