It is about the most accurate factory ammo, for most of the handi 223's.  Some have other preferences but it's a lot of bang for the buck.  If your gun is new, search the old posts for prepping the gun and barrel before shooting for best results.

My son's will print sub MOA with those loads all day long.
God, Family, and guns, in that order!

I think most everyone here has tried it.  And I bet they are hard pressed to handload better, I for one am.  Must have shot a bit over 200 rounds this summer looking for a load that would equal it.  Finally found one, just one, that shot as good.  I keep a box on hand all the time just so I can go back and check to see if the change I made did good or bad.

Donaldo,

What recipe came closest to duplicating the WWB 45grJHPs?

I've been trying to emulate their performance with Nosler BT 50 & 55grs. I think the 55s are too heavy for my gun. I'll trying the 50s that I loaded when the weather here realizes that it's March and not February!!

I've got about 150 rounds of the White Box on hand and keep my rifle zero'd for it so that I can hunt confidently whenever I want. I then just test my handloads for grouping where ever they hit the target.

PS: my .223 is not a Handi it's a CZ 527 American. I have other NEFs though and love them!!

I shot a box from my new stainless handi 223 last weekend and found that the gun seems to group better dirty than clean....The whitebox ammo really shoots clean,,,very little residue in the barrel after each shot. But my gun was stringing high the more I shot. I finally readjusted the scope and got them all onto a 3 inch target at 120 yards. Hopefully I can see some cloverleafs by the end of the 160 rounds I have left.
Anybody else leave their gun uncleaned for this reason?

The white box hollow points and UMC 55 gr. FMJ are the best loads i have found for my 223 handi. They are about equal in the group size. With the avalability of 223 ammo and the relatively low cost i really don't see a point in reloading for this catridge. If you try them i don't think you be dissappointed.

kenscot, those 45 grain Winchester white box value pack HP's are the "gold standard" by which all other .223 ammo is judged in most H&R .223's. They shoot GREAT in my bull barrel .223 Limited Editiion Handi....<><....

Has anybody tried loading the bulk win 46 grain HP?  Its the same bullet, available cheap.

I shoot the white box from my Savage 12fv .223.  Nothing I have loaded or bought has shot as well.  My best 5 shot group is .66".

They were the first loads I used in my bull barrel handi and just like the rest said, they shot great. If you coyote hunt they are fine as long as your shots are in the boiler room. ie:behind the shoulder. Of course depending on the range neck shots and some others will drop them. You know what I mean the largest vital zone. I lost a dog or two on less than perfect shots like hitting in shoulder not behind. I went to custom loaded 50 grain V-Max and no more losses but I haven't had any really bad hits either . There a great load and you cant beat the price I keep a couple boxes around and still use them

Just a guess here but I'd bet that Winchester loads their 223 ammo with W748 ball powder. AA2230 and H322 would be powders that have similar rates and loading densities.  BLC-2 also.

I too have found that my Handi shoots a better whne the barrel is a little dirty.  The White box 45gr are some very good rounds.  A couple of weeks ago, a friend took a yote with one of those rounds at 280yds.  It was a bad shot (snapped the tail end of the spine) but still put it down.  I have shot a yote right in the brisket at 60yds with one of the rounds and it put it right down.  Best group I got out of the Whiote box was 11/16"  But, I was more or less just burning up factory ammo so I could get some brass.  I bet I could have shot it better.
It's all a hot mess...........

I just bought a box of Win 45 gr. JHP white box and Black Hills 52 gr. Match HP (Blue Box Remanufactured) today in order to compare the different ammo.  The Black Hills performed as well if not better out of my Ultra Varmint.  I did the o-ring trick plus polished the bore.  Group was from 1/2 to 3/4 with each type of bullet.  Black Hills comes with 50 in the box were Win is only 40.  Both were same price at Sportsman's Warehouse.

Sportsman's continues to expand.  My uncle and I each purchased our 223 UV's two weeks ago during Sportsman's customer appreciation days.  We had a $10 off gift certificate plus the 5% off during the special (basically saving us the sales tax).  To our surprise they send us another $10 gift card in the mail and said thanks for purchasing a firearm from us.  Trigger pull on both guns is about 64 oz's and shoot simular groups.  Hope it gets better with more rounds.  We are planning a P-dog hunt in early June to MT and WY.  Happy Shoot'n.

Ken i used to have a 223 ultra varmint and i used that ammo and it was the most accurate factory ammo that i tried . I didnt get to experiment much with reloads but i believe they matched or may have been better then my handloads . I sold that rifle to a friend and reccommended that ammo to him.

Just last week , I purchased a H&R ultra with a BSA 3x9x40 scope , and with the Winchester 45 gr cartridges , I am in disbelief how accurate and how small the groups are .
I had two other high dollar , well scoped rifles with me at the time , so I was shooting at the same range , same weather ,  100 yards , and from bags and rest on a rifle range , and the H&R really outshot my other 2 rifles , I am impressed with this H&R in .223 .

That target was some nice shootin Deadeye......Yesterday after work I got out to shoot another 40 round box through my 223,,,the first "clean" shot was an inch and a half high....which is okay for hitting 200 yds.....from 100 yd sight in.  The more ammo I shot the better the groups got,,,and around the 25th shot I started a new target and placed 5 into one ragged hole a half inch high.  I can live with that.      Don't think the groundhogs will!!

Anyone try the PMC 52gr hpbt match?  One of the members at the club had some and I was getting 3/4" groups at 100yds with my .223 handi. He was also getting some 3/4" groups with his colt Ar15. The only problem they cost about  $13 a box.  We also were using UMC and federal and getting 1" to 1 1/2" groups at about $5 a box. He was surprized that the handi shot so well as his AR15 cost about $1000.
