I'm thinking about getting a  7mm-08 rifle barrel for my encore, and I like to "roll my own". I would like to know what bullet weights are normally used and what powders have been successfully. I have been using IMR3031 in both of my 308's and would like to use the same powder.

The only load I've done so far is 46gr of H4350 with 140gr Core-lokts. It shoots to the same point of impact as factory ammo with the same bullet. Hodgdon Varget and IMR 4064 seem popular for the 7-08.

I have loaded bullet weights from 110 gr. TNT HP up to 150 gr. Partitions. The powder I use the most is Varget, it works well with all bullet weights mentioned. (I think the 160 gr. and up take up to much case capacity) I have also used W760 and H414 with excellent results. Varget is the least temperature sensitive of the three. Hope this helps. :grin:

I use 139 grain Hornady's in my Model 7, 7mm-08!

Never had a problem with them and never felt like I should go to the premium bullets!

For my 18 1/2" barreled 7-08, the average bullet weight would be about 140grns. I get excellent accuracy with IMR4064 and velocity with H414.

Has anyone here tried H380 for for 7mm-08 with 140 gr. bullets. I am considering giving it a try since my rifle barrel is only 20" I thought the faster burn rate might be a little more efficient

Several years ago I had a conversation with one of the fellas at TC and asked him about the 7mm08 with the encore barrel. He recommended hornady's 154 grainers roundnose. I've only found the 154gr soft points and put them over 46gr of H4350 and federal mag primer and get very good accuracy close to 1moa consistently. I also crimp on the cannelure using the lee factory crimp with 3/4 turn. Also I'm using a 6 power scope to sight in.

Well I got my barrel, now I need a set of dies and a few brass to get started. I have some brass I would consider trading for 7mm-08 brass and dies. I might have other brass, just ask.

100 once fired 10mm
100 new 10mm
250 once fired 357 Sig
1000 once fired 40 s&W
200 once fired 30/30
100 new 45 colt
