I heard a rumor at our Spring meeting that next fall we may be allowed a few Swift Fox in our District as incidentals. We have some areas,30 or 40 sections of big open grass pastures and they have come down from Canada and are doing quite well in these areas. They really like Bonanaza Mild and Doube Cross.

We are allowed to keep the little buggers down here. Is there anywhere else it's legal to trap them? I caught 5 , one was eaten by an eagle. All that I had left was a little piece of fur in a snare. My buddy trapped the area 25 years ago and said he caught alot but the coyotes usually found them first. I would just as soon not catch them. I got $5 a peice for them. I didn't call the guy Wacky told me to; he was paying $15 with the feet left on.

Next year freeze the little goofs whole and I'll bet you can do way better than $15 in the Taxi market. I have standing orders for them. I just got a call from a gut in NJ wanting one for a museum.

They are supposed to be different.... However, when you read the descriptions, most would be confused unless they had one of each in front of them. And, I'm not catching any of either...3.5 too 4 lbs pan tension seems to do the trick.

I caught one in a Jake trap with 3-4 lbs. of tension. He must of been dancing on the pan.lol. I plan on filing my doggless traps so they have more pan tension to try and not catch any next year.

Here in Kansas Swift or Kitt fox are legal. The position of Ks. Wildlife and Parks is they are the same animal. I find them alot in and around prairedog towns, but in shortgrass praire they can be anywhere. Little devils are fun to catch. Sure have an attitude. Act like they are grizzlybears when in a trap. Wish I could see one inside a prairedog hole getting breakfast. The only thing Kansas requires is that they be tagged with a state tag. They like to keep track of harvest. We don't have a limit on them. If you find them they are easy to catch. Old western Gmen have told me that the demise of the little fox in parts of the west, was due to getters or cyanide guns set for coyotes. They have told me that kitt fox are real suckers for them. That anyplace the getters and little fox are in the same area the swifts get cyanide first. The population about 75 miles each side of the Colorado Kansas border is very healthy.
