Would this Marlin 1894 be acceptable for Cowboy Action Shooting.
It is a .44SPL/Mag.

Many Marlins are used in CAS. One thing that "might" have to be done (and it's cheap!): The rear sight sometimes has a white triangle showing from the rear. This needs to be blackened or turned around. I used a magic marker and took all of 5 seconds to do it. Course I'm a perfectionist :grin:

Good gun, the Marlin.
In fact, all the 94s share the same action, so if you find one you like, go for it.

One note of caution, I had a 44mag carbine like the one pictured (but old style) and it would not cycle 44 special ammo. Some of the older guns are not set up to handle the shorter brass.

Even NCOWS allows it now, so there is no legal problem.
From a use standpoint, you probably want to get an O ring or something to keep it from activating while loading it.

Marlins are good guns for CAS and every day use.. have fun.

When I hunt with mt 1894 , I use a small c clip on the cross bolt safety to prevent it from accidently being placed on safe,, use the half cock safety. I remove it at the end of the day.

My fix for the cross bolt safety is to remove the stock and tighten the hex screw all the way in.

Yes, but if you do it your way you don't have to spend money :grin:

I keep telling my wife that's what CAS is all about: spending and shooting, etc.

Here is a picture that shows you both sides of the Ludwig "safety."

What you're seeing is my two Marlins from different sides. I like the look--like it's part of the gun but all the other ideas work and are cheaper, too.

Way back NCOWS was not allowing Marlins with safeties so these were developed. Understand NCOWS is now allowing the safeties on Marlins so your only concern is having it come on when you don't want it to--like when you're trying to fire it :grin:
