New Barrels Arrived
« on: March 15, 2005, 03:03:12 AM »
The UPS man stopped by the house with a long skinny box last night.  I had two new barrels fitted to my 45-70 receiver.  The first was a 357 magnum with Williams sights and the other was a tracker II barrel with the normal Handi sights.  I can't wait to get to the range and try them out.  Any suggestion on a accurate load for the 357?

When did you send your reciever in to the factory?  How long did it take to get it back?  I'm expecting mine to show up any day now.  Give me some hope...  8)

NEF received it on 2/4/05.  UPS tried to deliver it Friday but nobody was home to sign for it.

So it took almost exactly 6 weeks from the day you shipped it to the day they tried to deliver it.  My rifle is exactly one week behind yours, which means it'll arrive the day after I leave on a hunting trip.  Dang!  I knew that was going to happen...       I guess it'll have to wait for the next trip.  I was really hoping it would arrive before I left.

That's a bummer.  What barrel or barrels did you order?  I like this program so much, I think I have become addicted.  I may have to get a couple more barrels.  More barrels means more scopes and more reloading gear.  This is going to get expensive.

stiff neck,
Call them and pester them.  You know it is the squeaky wheel that get the grease.  Maybe they will have pity on you and get it out sooner.

Very impressive!  I have three NEF's and 1 H&R Ultra.  It looks like I have some catching up to do.  I guess I could show my wife the picture and say, see dear its not just me!

I called NEF and inquired about my rifle.  They looked it up and said that it should have shipped out already.  But for some reason it's still sitting right there in the "H" pile, whatever that means.  GRRRR!  It's ready to be shipped, just waiting on the manpower.  They ship UPS ground which takes 4-6 days.

I asked if they could expidite my order since I am leaving on vacation soon.  Sorry, they could probably ship it out tomorrow but it won't arrive until after I leave anyways.  I offered to pay for express shipping etc but they don't do that.

I changed the shipping address so UPS will deliver it to a friend's house while I'm gone to avoid further delay.

So sad....   :(

06shooter,
For longer ranges at hi velocity, I've had great results with 180 gr jacketed bullets over Hogden H-110. The bulk remington bullets from Midway USA are just as accurate as the Hornady XTPs in my rifle, a Winchester 94 legend. I don't own a NEF in 357 mag yet, but I think the twist in the barrel is the same as my Chester. I shoot groups less than 1 inch at 75 yards with this combo, not bad for a levergun.  ;)

Irv,

Thanks for the information on the load.  I think that I may have to go buy some Winchester white box until I get some dies.  I am really eager to try this barrel out.  I am considering messing around with some cast bullets for nice cheap plinkers.
