.45 / .410 Barrel Chop
« on: March 14, 2005, 11:18:21 AM »
I have a 15" .45 / .410 barrel for my Encore that I would like to have shortened.  Does anyone know of anyone that may be experience at doing this?  Any other ideas or do you know of anyone that makes a stainless .45 / .410 barrel in shorter lengths?

Thank you,

Mark

Don't forget that the choke stops the shot from spinning with the rifled barrel. So if you chop out the choke I would think shotgun performance would suffer. If you're chopping the barrel for 45 Colt centerfire I would suggest a dedicated 45 barrel (what I did) as the accuracy reported by most all is mediocre with this barrel.

Unless you happen to be one of those happy with the 45 Colt performance  :o

That's the trouble...

That's where my trouble lies....  I want the barrel chopped down, but want the choke reinstalled.  I will only use the barrel for bunny hunting and some plinking and will most likely never shoot .45 Colt through it.  I have found a few local smiths who will chop it, but not reinstall the choke.  If that's the case, I will leave it at 15" and look into ordering a custom barrel in 10".

Thanks!

I don't know if they would do the work, but I would contact Briley Manufacturing.  They specialize in shotgun work and choke tubes.

I bet there are plenty of folks that would trade a 10 inch barrel for you carbine straight over.  And you would save some money.  If not...just sell it on GB Classifieds and buy a 10".  It would be nuts to spend money to do all that work.
....make it count
