It dawned on me that neither T-man nor myself mentioned anchoring strategies. Before you drive a stake you need to consider the chain length relative to stake size and type, to trap size and modification, to check interval, to soil type etc. One formula that T-man explains well, and works just fine in my experience, is; cross stake (I'll add or earth anchor, iused 1.5 inch fender washers on 15 too 22 inch cable) short chain, strong small trap, good pan tension and 24 hour check. I've also had good success with 16 too 18" chain single staked and big traps on short check intervals. If your on long check intervals you may wish to consider longer chains and big strong traps. In all cases swival the hell out of them and use tough swivels.
