yes i believe i had one pullout the trap was a #2 bridger 2coil offset jaws

tie to a small tree with afew other small trees around he ripped up the ground in one spot and then went around another one of the trees and gone he even missed the second trap i had set

would 4 coil help a fully modified bridger work better

what is the best yote trap money can buy

or did i have a poor set because of the other tree around

any help app.

just starting back trapping since high school

down here in MO. around lake of the ozark

Hard to say if that was the cause or not- but let me say it probably contributed to it. Staked (or wired) traps should be away from such entanglements- otherwise chain gets kinked and swivels get bound up. try staking with long stake on 18 inch or so chain, or do as I do and double stake. Those "new fangled" earth anchors also work. You might also have had a poor catch such as a toe catch. Make sure your traps have good tension for yotes, and are bedded firmly so they don't "tip" when a coyote steps on jaw- that also gives a poor catch....trappnman

Dido on T-man's comments. Also, when you tie off to a tree or the like your asking for trouble...trees don't have any swivels. Stakes or earth anchors and proper swivels will allow the critter to go round and round, roll, twist, spin and tug. Your tree gave it a place to pull against and probably gave it the edge it needed to power out (if you had a good catch). I've held some tough yotes in smallish traps set for something else...they all have been swivel in at least three places and staked, anchored or on a drag.

It dawned on me that neither T-man nor myself mentioned anchoring strategies. Before you drive a stake you need to consider the chain length relative to stake size and type, to trap size and modification, to check interval, to soil type etc. One formula that T-man explains well, and works just fine in my experience, is; cross stake (I'll add or earth anchor, iused 1.5 inch fender washers on 15 too 22 inch cable) short chain, strong small trap, good pan tension and 24 hour check. I've also had good success with 16 too 18" chain single staked and big traps on short check intervals. If your on long check intervals you may wish to consider longer chains and big strong traps. In all cases swival the hell out of them and use tough swivels.

Trappnmn comments were on the money.I don't think 4 coiling is the answer.The best coyote trap made are Sterling MJ600's.There are lots of places I would never set one for fear of not getting it back.
