SIGHT ATTACHMENT
« on: March 16, 2005, 04:27:18 AM »
A quick question
Will a set of sights that have bead attached to a 12ga shotgun barrel with accra glass hold up over time if no releasing agent has been used.
It is for a turkey gun & poss slugs if it works. Or should I take it to a smith & have the ramp & rear sight brazed on. No vent rib & has nothing on the front to tap into, thin choke tube
Thanks
That's my boy, GOD BLESS AMERICA!!

AcraGlass will most likely fail and when it does, you risk losing the sights. If you want to "glue" them on, use PolyChoke rib adhesive. You should be able to get some from PolyChoke. This adhesive doesn't get glass hard, but stiffens up like tire rubber. It will flex as the barrel expands and contracts with temperature changes.

Brownells sells the stuff too.. Remember to follow the directions carefully, it requies the parts to be final cleaned with a special solvent. Use anything else and you risk degrading its holding power.  If possible soft soldering(sweating) would likely be preferable..I just don't trust adhesives..

Just thinking out loud... How about rear view mirror adhesive???
Sounds like it might be very close to Poly-Choke adhesive, even down to the "special" cleaner. :?

Rear view mirror adhesive is more like super glue. Dries hard and brittle. It would probably pop off.   KN
