Model 1889 Marlin value

I have found a 1889 in 38W in decent shape. Sort of rough, super bore. Has a crack in the stock, but fixable. Looks like it was carried a lot, Never re-done or sanded. I can get it for $400. Blue book is not encoraging. I would say
40% condition . Any help is appreciated.

Without seeing yours, I'll just say that I love mine. Fun to shoot and and accurate. I shoot .403 wheelweight cast bullets thru it's .408 bore and get consistant 1 1/4" groups at 50 yards with a tang peep sight.
