I guess for now it is. It was replaced w/ the SPS (which basically what it was; the ADL Synthetic). Just a new name, but I don't think I saw the traditional wood stocked ADL   . Oh well, I'm sure better things will come.  :D

I believe the new SPS series is a smart move by Remington. The shorter length of pull and the 24 inch barrels on the standard calibers is good, plus the WSM in .270 and .300 is surely going to be  a great seller. On Remingtons web site they list them for $520.00 so  you could probably get one for around $450.00 or so.Maybe those Vangaurds were finally gettin into Big Greens  wallet! :-D

I just noticed this too....they have subtracted 3/4 of the BDL line (the stainless model and the one w/ the detachable mag). They only have the wood stocked floorplate BDL remaining. Weird.... :?

Yeah, They replaced the BDL SS and DM with those of the SPS like that also. I guess that is why the 700 BDL SS in the SAUM are going cheap on gunbroker.com

I talked to Remington Customer Service today......no more ADL....and the SPS , (special purpose synthetic) is just that,,,,synthetic.   I think , from looking at a ton of individual websites..that an ADL in wood can still be had easily enough.  They needed to add a laminate to that SPS line....seems a natural fit.   Seems from what I read , the Mossberg ATR 100 will be tuff competition, and about 120 bucks less than the SPS.  244.00 versus 399.99  for the Remington SPS.......only range time and new owners telling the story will tell........

If they added a wood stocked SPS, it would no longer be SPS. It would end up being SP. So there's another marketing campaign for Remington to deal with. :D

The cmparison between the SPS and the ATR from Mossberg is probably already in the works.........one question....the Mossberg web site says of the wooded stock offering.........and I quote....."walnut dipped"......what the heck does than mean????    Maple that's dipped in a walnut stain???

Makes you wonder.....I asked the folks at Mossberg...no reponse as of yet........

SPS vs ATR

Just got a return call from Mossberg that tells me the "Oak Dipped " stock, is actually a synthetic stock....get this....dipped in a material that resembles walnut wood.....the product dries, and it polished to the correct size and specs as the normal synthetic stock.......I asked if this "coating " was easily scratched......he said he did not know..but with good care , it should last a very long time.  So Oak dipped actually means dipped. I gotta see one of those in a store just to see what it feels and looks like...
250.00 bucks ......who knows....perhaps it's a resin that actually is very weather resistant..... 8)

Ah Well! Progress

I just ran out a got a ADL Youth in 30-06 before there gone. It will make an excellent brush/mountian gun. Ive decided to get a Bushnell 3200 3X9 or 2x7 on it. I love my Rems.

I know this a Remington forum, but I have to say that I tried a Howa Lightning last season, and Wow what an accurate gun. Watch out Remington.

Of course, there are other guns out there better than Remington (they must be far and few between tho  :) ). Howa...I don't think I've heard of them too much. I'll have to check em out.  :D

Howa is actually a Japanese made gun I think for an Australian brand. Its the same company that manufactures barrels for Weatherbey. The guns are around $400 and some change. Very smooth action and solidly built. Not really any better than Remington but noteworthy. I plan on getting one in 7mm mag.
