I'll be out on my first turkey hunt next month. I've got a friend in Western NE with 8 acres that says he sees birds out there all the time. My problem is that I don't have any money for a new gun and what I have is an NEF Topper with a modified choke. Will I be OK except that my range will be limited, or should I borrow my brother-in-law's Benelli Nova and buy him one of those extra, super - whatever full chokes? I'm also wondering about loads - do you need the Hevi-shot or is plain lead alright? I was hoping to load my own but if not I'll buy enough shells to pattern the gun. What shot size? What do you do if the first shot doesn't do it ? Do you carry something with bigger pellets and aim for the body to finish the bird? Just a few questions.
