How to build an inexpensive NEF
« on: March 21, 2005, 04:48:45 AM »
Buy a new unfired .270 barrel from Mamba Driver - $86.00

Buy a new unfired receiver from raynor  - $35.00

Add stock from my son's 17hmr after replacing it with a youth stock - freebie

Order forarm and screw from H&R - 22.50

Total price 143.55

I am such a cheapskate  :)   But the critters I hunt will never know they were not hit with a $143 gun instead of a $800 supermagnum  8)

Sounds like a fun project - If you had to buy new stocks, how much would the cost come up?

I will have to take look at Raynor and Mamba Driver - never heard of them, though that is not surprising.

Good luck with it, let us know how it shoots.

Sure it would be quicker and easier to just go to Wallyworld and order one for $187 or so, but where is the fun in that.  A bunch of us are retired, lots of time on our hands.  I have spent hours trying to keep from paying a certain price for something, when I know if I look around or scrounge around, I can find it for 1/2 or less of the price.  Its not that I can't afford to pay the price, it is the feeling that once in a while YOU BEAT THE SYSTEM.   :-D  :-D

I can dig that Donaldo...right now for me, time is worth more than money.  I look forward to the days when I can do that too....about twenty years to go  .  Just hope I'm not too worn out by then!   :D

MTjerry you might want to check that reciever to see if it's a SB1 or Sb2.A sb1 reciever cannot handle the pressure of a .270.Please be carefull.
