Lure holder or not?
« on: March 21, 2005, 08:05:01 AM »
I know alot of trappers use cotton, sheep's wool etc., to place their lure on and shove it down a dirt hole.  A couple of years ago I experimented using lure holders and not.  It is kinda of hard to have a control group, but I found that by pouring the lure directly into the hole, the animal worked the set harder and longer.  One thing they can not do is grab your lure holder and run.   I just wonder what the rest of you think about this subject.

Lure holder or not?

One year I used 1 inch squares of Antelope hide as lure holders,a little visual attractor along with the good smell. It was a big mistake, every pack rat from New Mexico north followed me around dragging those chunks of hide with lure out of the holes.I use a butter knive to smear the lure in the back of the hole.I like deep dirt holes.
I love the smell of coyote gland lure early in the morning. It smells like victory!!
