New Rem 209 blackpowder primers
« on: February 17, 2005, 03:09:34 PM »
Hi Guys,

First post on GBO,

I just read on another sight (posted by Triplese7en) that Remington has come out with a 209 primer for muzzleloaders that is lower power, supposed to help with the crud ring.  Anybody know about it or used one yet?

cheers,

I read an article on this back in Nov. and ask Remington about it in email and they denied changing the 209 primer.  Don't think the people that answer emails for them are kept in the know.  Thanks for posting this I hope they work! Wonder what they costs?

I would like to see how it does with triple7, but I am going to stick with my 25ACP.  Also BeanMan Welcome to Graybeard.  :D

I read the article also and did not see anything about "lower power" only that they are supposed to be cleaner. I too would like to see the comparison with Triple Seven which is a mess with my rifle regardless of what I use for a primer including the .25ACP.

Remington makes a primer for the .410 that has much less power than the regular primers. Lots of guys are using these in the inlines.

Keith,

I am guilty of infering the lower power bit.  If it is cleaner then I'll be a fan.  I do have some 410 primers and some Black MAG 3 in the mail that I will experiment with as soon as they get here.

I have it on good authority that the "new" Remington black powder primers are just the old Remington .410 primers in a new box.

Do these primers have a number, or are they just called black powder primers?

Thanks

Depends on where you live. If you have to order it and pay the $20 hazmat fee order a bunch as you only pay the $20 fee for the whole order. Also I think Midsouth Shooters Supply is selling it for less than Cabelas. If you are in Michigan there are a lot of stores around the lower part of the state stocking it. If you live in the Western part of the country you just about have to order it at this time as the distribution system is not completely set-up. I have been told they are working on getting it more available but apparently that takes time. A lot of the east coast stores stock it since it comes out of Florida.

Here is a source for the Remington .410 primers. $20 for 1,000.
My guy says there is no hazmat fee.

I used these "new" primers yesterday with 777 pellets. They worked great. I have a CVA optima pro and when I got home I took the breech plug out and it wasnt bad at all. Hot tap water in a coffee mug and the breech plug looked brand new in three minutes. This was after about 30 shots at the range. Also the primers were 4$ for 100 at bass pro shops.

devolve,

Which "new" primers did you use?

The "NEW" Remington Kleanbore® Muzzleloading Primers

or the "OLD" Remington No. 209-4 Premier Primers (.410 BORE)?

I have not seen the "NEW" Kleanbore® Muzzleloading Primers, can you post a picture of them? If you can, can you also set one primer side up and one primer side down in front of the "NEW" box showing the label?

I have some of the "OLD" Remington No. 209-4 Premier Primers and I was just curious if they changed them or if it is the same thing in a new package.

Jim,

Are these the "NEW" Remington Kleanbore® Muzzleloading Primers or the Winchester 209's they have packaged "FOR MUZZLELOADERS" that are the very same thing as there W209? Which ones are you guys are talking about?

I was informed that the "NEW" Remington Kleanbore® Muzzleloading Primers would not be available until the third quarter of 2005 and am curious as to what ones you are talking about.

These are the new Remingtons and are in stock at the Bass PRo store which will open soon in Columbia Mo.
We were in for a preview opening last week.
Nice store smaller than Springfields or St. Charles but close to home!

Thanks for the reply, Hillbilly Jim!

I guess I'll have to check 'em out against the "OLD" Remington 209-4's to see if they are the same thing or something new.

Hey Busta, :D

I'm a little behind the curve on this thread, but the info I had from my local gun shop is that Remington has a whole new line of ammo & primers coming out for 2005.  My gun shop shares  that info on the new products was showcased by Rem at the 2005 Shot Show.

Among the new products were cleaner burning primers and lower carbon content propellants for some,if not most of their ammo lines,....including of course, the new Kleanbore 209 muzzleloader primers.

The gun shop was also led to believe that these new products would not be available till about mid to late summer. I attempted to get info from Jay's in Clare MI, but they were of no help....nor do they have the new primers.

Tried also to get info on-line through Bass Pro,but unable to access any gun or ammo & accessory products on their catalog web site. (???) Don't know what that is all about. Hope they haven't gone soft on guns and ammo.
Anyway, hope some of this is of help. If you connect with a source,or have any new info, please let us know.

Primer,

This is what I pulled up off the Bass Pro site, sure isn't what I was looking for. The 209 Premier STS Primers are shotshell primers and not the NEW
Remington Kleanbore® Muzzleloading Primers that I am looking for.

Check this link out.

Busta,

When I pulled up Bass Pro from the Google Web search yesterday, the only related items under Hunting Tab was Guns and Accessories and no Black Powder items. Went back this a.m.,and all looks normal. Go figure.

Anyway, the Remington STS primers are all that I have seen also...and as you, NOT what I am looking for either. So, I am somewhat confused as to what a few of the others have found and are using. It may be that the STS's or 209-4's are being confused with the new Kleanbore primers yet to hit the store shelves. As your picture link shows, the Rem STS's box has "NEW" plastered on the face of the box.

The search continues.

Thats a marketing scam that all manufacturers use. They put "New" on an old item and immediately the sales go up. I would have hoped that Remington was not down at that level. They have already said that the new primers will not be out until later this year and what the other guys are buying is old stock remarked. Not what I would expect from Remington. The 209-4 primers are no longer made by Remington either and most sources for them have dried up. I guess I am glad I have the .25ACP conversion.

rThe primers I bought are marked for in-line muzzle loading.  The have a different box than the one shown in the above reference.
They have a product code of 209PSTSB which is different from the primers in the shotshell reloading section.  Are they same I don't know.
But they are packaged and marked for muzzleloading.  Maybe we in central Missouri are ahead of some of you other fellas.

Hillbilly Jim,

Must be that's why they call you the "Show Me State".

The 209 Premier STS Primers above have a product code of 209PSTS, the only difference is yours have a "B" on the end (209PSTSB). So they might very well be the STS Primers in a NEW package. They are going to have to "SHOW ME" that they are indeed different, if they want my money. I can still get the 209-4's.

I know for a fact that the Winchester Muzzleloadin 209 primers are exactly the same as the standard shotgun primers just packaged differently. I suspect Remington has done the same thing with these and the newer Kleenbore are due later. Remington is probably just trying to get some of the business that Winchester has had on the muzzleloading shelves.
