Howdy.  If anyone knows where I could find one of these that would be great.  Even maybe a Spartan model in those combos?  Thanks for the info.

Dave,
Baikal does not make those combinations.  I just checked their site in Russia.  I wonder if any of the other combo gun manufacturers make a gun in those combinations?

Howdy.  These 410 bore combos are built on the old single shot frame, and have a selector button on the tang.  EAA had them listed on their site before Remington took over the line, and they were advertised in 22lr, 22wmr and 17hmr.  I do not think that any of the 22WMR or 17hmr ever made it into the states.  I have talked to a few dealers who said they were sold out of the 17, but I am reluctant to believe it.

Here is a link of one of the new spartans in this combo on gunsamerica.  He says he sold his last one in 17, but says he has more coming next week:

The Baikals were listed for $185; the new spartan has a retail list price of $249.  I certainly do not care for the remington name, and would rather have the EAA version for the extra $65.  Strange how just changing the stamp on the thing makes it cost that extra $65.

There are a lot of people saying how wonderful the new 17 hmr is; I think personally it has limited applications.  I wouldn't trust it on a coyote, and it would destroy a rabbit at close range, but if I am going to try it out, the Baikal (EAA, SPARTAN, whatever) is about the lowest price going on the caliber, and has a 410 bore shotgun along for free.  Actually, some of the local Dene have been in the gunstore buying 17 ammo for caribou.  They do get chewed out by the staff, but seem to think it works.  Way too small for that sized animal.

Anyways, if anyone finds some of these in stock somewhere, drop me a line so I can round out my IZH 94 collection.
Thanks.

Thanks for the update.  I had not heard of and .17 HMR combos coming into the US.  Those Baikals are a real deal for unser $199.  If you find anyone with the .17 or a .22 mag and .410 please let me know.

Has anyone actually seen one of the Spartan rimfire/410 combos?  Even at the Remington price it is about 40% of the cost of a Savage Model 24.  I would be interested, but want to see one first.  The two gun stores I deal with have these guns on order, but haven't seen any yet.

Eastern Europe is a player in the precision machining market.  They are competing with China for much of the worlds low cost manufacturing.  I am sure that they are capable of making a good quality product.  The price is low enough so I am a little concerned.

I actually did purchase one of these in 22 mag, from the guy in the gunsamerica ad in my earlier post.  Unfortunately, it is sitting at my exporter's shop in Montana until all of the paperwork is complete.  Should be another 7 weeks until I see it.  Apparently, according to Remington, they went over to Russia and set-up a factory next to IZH for the manufacture of the stocks because they were not happy with the finish on the Russian guns.  This is from my local gun guy, who saw the Spartan rep at the shotshow.  Even so, the wood on the SPR 94 rimfire looks more like a canoe paddle than a gun stock.  I will let you know more once I receive the firearm.YKD
