Did the old break open 45-70's eject their brass or did they just extract them.

How close is the current BC in 45-70 to the originals?

The .204 Ruger which was released last fall was the first of any H&R rifles to have a factory extractor, up until then they were all ejectors, as far as I know. I've got an old H&R shotgun, built in the '20s, has an ejector just like those up until now have.

If by the originals you mean the Wesson and Harrington Civil War era "tip up" rifles, the similarity is they fold in the middle and have holes in the barrels. That's about it.

Don't know about the H$R's of old but I don't think many of the old breech loaders ejected the case. It was a matter of an extractor and if it was worked quickly it could pop it out pretty fast but otherwise no.

The Montanan would be the best source for that info.
