.45/70 Reloading Data

Just incase some of you were not aware of this Speer reloading data is as follows- the trapdoor loads  are  held to 21,000 psi (like most factory loads)  the lever action data is held to saami specs of 28,000 and the ruger #1 is held to 35,000 psi. I thought this was interesting as the Hornady trapdoor loads go to 25,000 there lever action loads go to 40,000 and there ruger loads go to 50,000.  Hornady loads to much higher levels.  So if any of  you are planning to purchase the Spartan double rifle the Speer  lever action loads will be a good place to start. The speer information i have given  you, i got from speer themselves in both a phone call and e-mails.

That's a good point, those that are interested in the EAA/Spartan SxS rifles should also be aware that they have max recommended load pressure of 28,000psi.  :wink: If Remington ever fixes their web site, the info is there on the SAAMI specs for the SxS rifles.

Again...it's a matter of legality on complying with the SAMMI specs...and it gets them out of the liability and warrenty repairs for the rifles problems by anyone overloading their rifles with heavy handloads...most manufacturers are doing this...but it's funny...they will be having a 30-06 in the same rifle...so pressure are up there...

Don't forget that an 06 has a case head 22% smaller than a 45-70 and thus 22% less force applied to the breach.  48000 minus 22% = 37,440!
50,000 - 22% = 39,000.
So, a load producing 50,000 cup in a 30-06 puts the same force on a breach face as a 45-70 load at 39,000 cup.

Actually I messed that up a bit because neither round covers an inch so the actual pressures will be lower for both sorry
