45ACP for bear??

The .45 ACP for bear beats nothing, but not much more. When you compare the .45 +P, 165 gr. bullet, with a ME of 573 ft/lbs and the lowly 30/30 Winchester, 170 gr. bullet. with a ME of 1827 ft/lbs, you get some idea of what I mean. I lived in Alaska for five year and hunted both Black and Brown (Grizzly and Kodiak) bear every year I was there. I carried a Winchester .338 Mag. Over-gunned for Black Bear, yes, slightly. About right for Ole' Grizz. But under-gunned on Kodiak Island. Second year I switched to a .375 H&H for the island hunt.

Don't mis-understand, I love the .45 1911, but it is best used on two legged varments, not four legged ones, especially bear.

I think its the perfect handgun for a bear.   If the bear practices and is able to conceal the larger frame, why not.

Do you know how many comedians are out of work? :-D

Where's a bear gonna get a decent covering garment?

I think the bear would have to "Grin and bear it"

sorry couldn't resist  8)

Hi all, I go with all you on this one. I have never shot a bear....ummm...Come to thing about it I have never seen a bear out side of the zoo. I came from Chicago and now live out-side of Nasville, where I have been for years. No bear here. I have hunted a few types of game with my .45ACP mostly only cyots, black birds, 1 pitbull and a few turkey.

As far as "big game" I like to shoot my .44mag DesertEagle or .50AE DesertEagle. I have dropped tons over deer with the .50 over the years of hunting on my familys 292 acers. That is where I do all the hunting.

I would with out a doubt got hunting for bear with the .50, but that could be, because I'm 24-young and dumb.

I need to age.
