Handguns for Coyotes
« on: February 07, 2003, 06:38:47 AM »
I want to start hunting coyotes but I only own handguns.

Does anyone on the list shoot them with a handgun? Could you give me some tips?

Will the movement from getting the gun up and the shot off be a problem?

I plan on using my Thompson Contender in .357 magnum. This should be ok out to 50 yards.

Thanks

hi, I have shot many Coyotes with handguns. I would, if you can afford it, change that barrel to a .223 and you will have so much fun you won't know what to do. My eyes have gotten worse over the years and handguns with scopes are difficult so I now shoot my varmint rifles. That's the beauty of the TC's is you can have many different calibers just by changing the barrel. Some people sell very good used barrels for a fair price.
Good shooting..

I've used my .357 max for yotes before but I really prefer my 10" .222 Rem. I use a 50 grain Nosler b/t and I'm comfortable shooting it out to 200 yards, beyond that I don't trust my shaky self. :)

If you have a 357 Magnum, go kill some coyotes with it. If you decide you like it you can always get another barrel later.
Perception is everything. For instance, a crowded elevator smells different to a midget.
