Hi All,
I traded into a Baikal Single shot rifle in .222 rem on Sunday at the Bisley show, found some S/H steel Hilver high 1" scope rings and brought it home and fitted up a 6x40 scope I had laying around. When I got it home I took it right apart and polished the hammer contact surfaces and the sear notch and sear which smoothed up the graunchy pull, it was still to heavy though. Monday took it over the wood to try out using two different factory rounds, Federal 55 Grn BT FMJ and Sako Gamehead 55 Grn here is the results for about 70 paces :-
this was the first target including the two sighting in shots, the following 3 shot group is circled and was using the Federal load
this is the Sako Load
and the rifle fitted with the scope.
Yesterday I took another look at it and again stoned the notch and sear and this time I removed about 0.020" off the width of the trigger/sear spring and then as it's a flat spring put a slight set into it to reduce the trigger pull which is now about half what it was but it stil has soem creep which I need to look at how to remove. Now I need to get out to try it again.
I am at present re-modeling the wood to make it more pleasing to the hand and eye, once I have finished I will post and after photo. What I do not understand is why Baikal would not finish the trigger off properly like they do on their double shotguns  I have a O/U of theirs which has good triggers.
