Hello,

Do any of you guys know about how much MidSouth charges for shipping, on say a box of .17hmr?  Am I better off just getting it locally?

thanks,
Preston

I don't know the exact shipping cost, but Midsouth always seems to be awful high!!!  I have started to buy reloading supplies several times, every time I hit the "add to cart" button and see the shipping cost, I get off-line in a hurry.  I buy 95% of my reloading stuff from Midway, shipping is reasonable and very speedy.  Have a Happy and Safe Easter!!!

Midsouth has the lowest shipping charges of anyone I know of. They charge ONLY the actual cost to ship an item. If they pay say $10 to UPS or FEDEX to carry the box to you then that's the precise amount they charge you. I NEVER order via computer, I always call them. By phone they can give you a good approximation of costs. Dunno about how it works when doing online ordering.

But if you think they are high you are bad wrong. I know of no other company who doesn't add some "handling charges" into the shipping costs. Midsouth does not.

I had ordered a RCBS Trim Mate from them on Monday.  Shipping was $9.60.  The Trim Mate is a fairly large item (in the box).  I received it yesterday and so thought that was excellent service.  But with the Trim Mate being on sale for $80.00 the shipping was no big deal.

vanbuzen9,
I believe Midsouth has a minimum order amount of $40.00 or you pay even more...
I recently received an order from them for 250 40 grain V-Max, 250 50 grain V-Max, and 250 44 Magnum brass and the shipping was nearly $10.00.  Still the products were cheaper than purchasing other places, including locally.
Shipping is becoming so expensive that unless you order substantial amounts of products to absorb the shipping costs, it just isn't worth it anymore.  Sad but true.  Good-luck...BCB

I just placed a BIG order with Mid-south (over $300) and the shipping was $21 besides the required Hazmat fee for the powders I ordered.  The order also included about 500 bullets of over 200gr weight, a die, a cleaning rod, and a few boxes of rim-fire ammo - 3 packages total shipment.  That shipping cost is less than I would have paid in local taxes IF I could have gotten the stuff locally.

Cabela's shipping (which is usually kinda high for smaller orders) only runs $13.95 for an order over $200 - but then again.............they carry less than 1/4 of what I ordered.

All & all - Mid-South's shipping is reasonable.

I buy from both.
Which ever has the sale on what I need at the time will get my busness. Unless I need it right now then Midway gets my dollars. If I place an order before 3pm I will get it the next day. Thats the big plus for me.

BOTH will charge you a $3.00 FEE if you order under a certain dollar amount.

I have an order going in Thursday for 750 .223 55gr bullets, set of Leopold rings and a scope.

All items were the same other than Midway had a sale on the scope and bullets. Guess who I'm ordering from?

Midsouth was $207.64 + $8.56 for shipping
Midway was $174.26 + $8.58 for shipping

So shipping is fair by both companys. They both sell great products.

P.S. I will have my order  in hand by Friday no later than 12pm.

Plus I mail order because the bonehead shops in town never have what I want. Shipping is relative under those circumstances. Most times its cheaper than tax. Wonder when we will have to start paying sales tax on orders??

I'd like to suggest to everyone to ask why all companies are not using the $7.70 flat-rate Priority Mail boxes. There's no reason to pay more than that for the small, heavy stuff!

Moe and Steve just added a couple of my concerns. I've never had any problem with the shipping cost at midsouth but have at midway. But I always put together a $100 to $300 dollar order. Seems like they're always going to charge you at least seven dollars or more at the least and I pick up a few jkt bullets for different calibers and watch for the ones on sale.

I have placed a couple of orders with Midsouth and the shipping has always been around $9.00.  I order 99% of the things I need at Graf & Sons, it doesn't matter how much you buy the shipping is a set $4.75 if you call and $3.75 if you order over the internet.
Good Shooting,
George

Funny you should mention that.  I was just reading an article the other day where they were talking about that.  It seems the federal guv't is trying to force internet companies to install softwear that will compute the tax based on which state the buyer is in.  Then you will be paying taxes on your internet purchases.  It will probably happen sooner than you think.  I'll do some digging and see if I can find that article.

It's always been like that.  If you order from a mail order company that is based in the same state as you are, they'll charge you tax.  But if I ordered something from Cabelas, I didn't have to because I'm out of state.  Now they are trying to get it changed so everyone has to.

That'll pretty much make it NOT worth it to mail order anything anymore.
