My first G2

Bought a G-2 Frame and three used barrels from Ed.  A 44 mag, 22 lr match and a .222.  All are 10 inch, but I'm wondering about the .222

Do you guys think it will perform alright in the 10 incher?  A 221 would definitely be more efficient and give approximately the same velocity.  What grain bullets would you suggest?  I have a bunch of different 50s that I plan on trying.

I'm fairly new to GBO, have been doing lots of reading, but only a couple of posts.  Let me say that this is a great site and I appreciate the opportunity to be a part of it.  There is a wealth of information here.

Oh, the trigger breaks clean, absolutely no creep, but is a little stiff.  I'll lighten it some, but right now it's probably 3 1/2 to 4 pounds (no scale, just a guess).

I'm sure gonna like this thing.

I plan on getting a 14-inch 6mm TCU when I can save a little more money.  What is your impression of the 6TCU in that barrel length?  To my thinking, it's just about perfect.

Just got my first G2 last week(actually it was my sons birthday gift) but mine is a carbine. I think you will be real happy with your purchase....I have had that combination of barrels at one time or another. The .222 I sold because I think it needs more barrel but it shot excellent.....I wanted a carbine. Now I have a 221 carbine that is a little easier to work with. Good luck on your new acquisitions.............let us know how they shoot.

I already had dies for the 44 mag and 222, so that was the reason for getting those calibers.  I expect the 44 to do well (fingers crossed), and of course the 22 lr match should be a blast.  If the muzzle blast on the 222 is too much, it'll be trade fodder.  

All three barrels are in really good shape outside and the bores didn't appear to be abused.  The 44 hadn't been cleaned and there was some fouling in the 222 that cleaned right up.  I've loaded 10 rounds of cast bullets (44) and 10 rounds of 180 JHPs (44) to try and shoot this afternoon.  

I plan on staying with faster powders like 4198 for the 222.  Most of the powders on hand are on the slow side of the 222, especially in a 10 barrel.  I've heard great things about the 222 in the 14 inch configuration, but there wasn't a used one available.

I think you'll have good luck with the 4198.  I enjoy my 10" 223 much more since I switched to that powder.
