I am in the market for an e caller and I thought the best place to start would be with hunters who use them.
The new digitals look nice but I dont understand why they are less than the cassette callers.
What is your choice.
Any feed back would be welcome.

I have had a Johnny Stewart for a long time it is a 512 model they dont make it any more there is a place the sale the new 612 JS caller for 134.95 for the mid range caller and 157.99 for the long range caller and u can get the Johnny Stewart tapes for 6.86 ea that is the cheapest i have seen them the place is www.natchezss.com i got one of the 612 from them and i like it i like to have a back up caller never know when u mite need i thope i have help u

In my area the hunting is close in.
I am working on a little project
I got an MP-3 player and now working on getting a small set of battery powered speakers. I have a few Johnny Steward tapes. I have converted them to mp-3 format. The setup is very small and lightweight (less then 2 pounds). And I can have several calls at one time on the player. To switch from one to the other all I have to do is push a button and with the software I have I can customize the calls any way I want or need. It should work quite well for the close in calling

We use the JS 612 here in ND and it works well. Good volume for distant calling. Problem is, it just gets too doggone heavy to carry a couple miles out to a stand. Also, it can be fitted with a remote, but you can only operate the tape that's in the machine. Don't get me wrong, it's a great caller, I'm just looking for something with a little more versatility. It would be better mounted in a backpack for ease of carrying. I've ordered the Foxpro with 16 calls and remote. Granted, it won't "reach out" like the JS but it'll fit in my pocket and I can choose any of the 16 calls with the remote. Looking forward to trying mine out. Good luck with whatever you chose.

the way i look at it is the sounds animals make dont travel real far so if you make a call louder then normal it will scare a way the close ones or at least let them know something is up.

Wish we had "close ones" in ND. Our stands will average up to 45 minutes and the coyotes can often be seen coming in from up to half a mile away. The volume is "key" where I hunt, as ND is a barren and windy state.

the only hunting i know is how it is in Maryland so that is what i base my knolage on. MD has so many people around 100 y. are a long way for us
we have to set up very carrefully so we are not facing someone's house

There's a new e caller coming out that's called The Loudmouth. From what I've read it's all that and a bag of chips. You can find it at www.allpredatorcalls.com. It has interchangeable digital chips for different sounds and a jack to remote control a decoy. It should be available in April.
