I have been a truck driver for 30 yrs and now am done. I found out yesterday that because of a ticket I refused to pay in California, my driver license has been suspended in all 50 states.

I have had four ticket's in the past 25 yrs and four million plus accident free miles. Three of those ticket's have been in California and two bogus! This last time I just decided to give up driving in that state rather than pay for the privilege (?) of driving there ever again.

Turn's out that the new Homeland Security Act has provided that if you get a ticket in any state and for any reason don't pay it, that state may have your driver's license suspended nationwide and they don't have to notify you either! If I am caught driving, I can be put into jail, the vehicle impounded and the owner of the vehicle get's a huge fine, even if they don't know about the suspension; even if nobody know's!

I am now out of a career after 30 yrs because I'm not prepared to pay California another bogus ticket. I'm not sure how many other driver's this has happened to but pretty sure I'm not the only one. Heh heh, three year's to retirement and can't work! Anybody know how much terrorism has been stopped or how many terrorist have been caught with this wonderful program? Surely I can't be the only one?

I, for one, feel safer knowing that the Ges...Naz...Fac...uh,  DHS has assisted The People's Republic to remove another english-speaking professional driver from operational status on our nation's highways, and for our own good.

We are better for this object lesson.

Maybe we could have a quota system where for every american they get they have to get one terrorist or maybe an illegal alien,,,,naw, what am I thinking. They are protected by our constitution and they work cheap.

Sorry to hear you got the dirty end of a bad law Don. This certainly has to be a case of an enforcement agency going beyond the "intent" of a poorly written law which was never intended for any agency that had an axe to grind with you, to have a way to take revenge. 30 years ago, you used to hear of cases such as yours being dismissed on grounds of "beyond intent."   Now it's "letter of the law", and we are all worse off because of this.
What do you suppose is going to happen next ? I would guess a team of Federal Marshals, military Police, and Immigration Officers will surround your house, fire tear gas grenades through the windows, arrest your whole family, and whisk you away to Guantanamo bay for interrogation and debriefing. Whatever you do, don't resist, or they will have reason to use up about 600 rounds of ammo, and riddle your corpse with 37 hits !
    You can take a little revenge yourself. Talk your wife into taking fertility drugs, have three sets of quintuplets, and move to Califoricate and get them on welfare.  Seriously, I hope some common sense enters the picture, and you can get back to driving.

Well if all their gonna fire is 600 rds, I'n gonna that my chances. I doubt they will come anywhere near hiting me 37 time's.

In truth it make's me sick, I've no idea what I'll do now.

And where does that stop? That remind's me of the government's answer to crime some year's ago: "Give them what they want so they won't hurt you."

Your blaming the wrong agency. When all drivers switched to the CDL system it was to rid drivers from having several different licenses from different states. I went thru something similar in 1992. I got a speeding ticket here in Indiana where I live. Being the good citizen I am I got a money order and mailed it to the appropriate clerk in the county the ticket was issued and thought the thing was over. About 8 months later I went to work for a different company and they hired me and put me on the road that day. After I had been running almost a week I made my morning check call and dispatch told me to park the truck immediately because their insurance company wouldn't insure me because my license had been suspended. I took a bus home and got to checking and the clerk said they never recieved my money for the fine. I found my reciept from the money order and went to see an attorney. Needless to say it took about a week and a half to straighten things out. The origanal ticket was for $105.00 and the attorney charged me $500.00 for his services to get everything straightened up. The company hired me back but this was after missing 2 weeks of work so all in all it ended up costing me about $2000.00 just over some boob that didn't credit me for paying the ticket. Best thing you can do is pay the ticket and go back to work. Thats just the way the system is set up and yes I know California has a burr in their shorts for truck drivers but if you had gotten the ticket in any other state the results would be the same. No license, no insurance, no job, it's just that simple. Don't take me wrong as I am on your side because I have been there, done that and I am not on Homeland Security side either but I don't think you can put the blame all on them. :shock:  :D
