The lovely wife went to the Salvation Army Thrift store over the weekend, I think to buy back all the stuff we donated.  She came back with a bag of golf balls.  No two bounce the same, no two have the same dimple pattern, no two have the same size or shape dimples and no two roll across the floor the same...I see that I am going to need match grade Golf Balls! No wonder I couldn't do any good at that game!

 That's nice to hear that the wife was thinking about you while shopping. :grin: Golf Balls make great cheap ammo. A few months back I picked up a box of balls at a yard sale for $2.00. I got home and counted 156 of them....

Double D, I'd suggest that you not fire any of those golf balls that have an autograph of "Tiger Woods"on them.  Save those as they may be worth
at least 15 cents some day. :P

Golf Balls being so plentiful and cheep to buy, I find that a lot of people like to shoot them.  When Tiger Woods or someother pro hits a ball, what is its velocity?  The velocity from my 24 pdr Field Howitzer is 1380 FPS.  Can Tiger keep up with that?
On another post you were talking of making a sport of shooting on the golf course.  At the show in vegas another Dealer said that it would be a real sport to play golf with a cannon or mortar.  You would have to weight the charge on scales and be real persice to play well.  I told him I would have a hole in one every time.  I would punch my own holes in the turf.

Playing golf with mortars would indeed take some minor bending of the rules.

Driving would be OK, but putting could get just down-right vicious.

But what would it take to rent the whole practice driving range for a few hours?

Just make a socket for a long handle on the mortar and use the combination as the putter.  :-)

Hmmmmm.  I have an extra golf club or two that could be 'adapted'.  I wonder should I use the one with the metal shaft or one of the ones with the wooden shafts?

And for my driver, a 1/2 scale 6 pounder or mountain howitzer, bored for golf balls, of course.  Might need two caddies, however.

Guys - I don't usually post on this forum but when I saw this thread about golf balls I just had to laugh.  And you can tell that 'in too deep' is really in too deep (lol).  

But, I don't want any of you fellas to think I don't have any respect fer ya.  In my day I shot golf balls from a 40mm grenade launcher, so I am not really innocent of having fun at golf (lol).  But, I would suggest you cover the golf balls with something so they don't turn to rubber bands in the bore.  Aluminum foil worked well enough to send a few golf balls into orbit and they are probably still there.  

So, if your darlin' wives are thinkin' 'bout ya'll when they go shopping and pick up some golf balls at least ya'll know how to play with them.

Cannon/Mortar golf is starting to sound really cool. However, with 1000 yard (or better) tee shots, not to mention what the approach shots and putts will take, we're going to need a LOT of room for the course. I figure something about the size of Rhode Island should be just about right.  :)   :-D  

Any ideas about what par should be?

WHAT AN IDEA!  If this goes, we're at a turning point in history regarding the game of golf.

Bobby Jones is long gone, perhaps we could get Tiger Woods or Vijay Sing to design the course - specifically for golf ball mortars.  Perhaps two different places to 'tee off' from - one for cannon and the other for mortars?
