What do you guys think of the new .460 S&W ? Just read about it in Shooting Times. Less recoil than the 500 and the ability to shoot 45 Colt and.454 Casull in it also.Article said it is the flattest  & fastest shooting handgun round made, with more energy at 300 yards than a 44 mag at the barrel. 8)

I think it sounds good.  I think it would make a nice round for the Encore.  I will be looking for more info on this possibility.  I like the idea of being able to shoot three different types of rounds in one barrel.
Just another voice in the crowd!!!

I think it will catch on as well as the 500MAG did.  :D

NEW 460 S&W MAGNUM

This is S & Ws new cartridge for the 500 frame revolver.  Ammo is by COR BON. Think of it as a 454 Casull magnumized.  The first factory ammo will use a 200 grain Barnes X bullet at 2300 and some change FPS from the 10" barreled revolver.  The same ammo does 2650 FPS from a 14"  SSK Encore.  Recoil is very mild for such a powerful cartridge. 454 and 45 Colt ammo can be used in the same chamber.

I got over 2100 FPS with a 300 grain jacketed bullet first try in the Encore.   I think there is another 1--200 FPS there with the 300 grain bullet.  Barrels are now available from SSK.

This round in an Encore is what I'm interested in......  :D

Yea I have been there but it dosent say what size bullet ..if S&W has a new size  bullet lets say .458 and the 454 is a .452 ..then i can shoot a 454 in a 460 but not get my barrel rechamberd...Am i thinking this right????

buckenbass, I see the specs on the 460 S&W bullet from the Shooting Times mag. It list it at 0.454 +.000 to -.004. Cor-bon is using the .451 and .452 bullets, the same one's used in the 454 Casull. Hope this helped.

buckenbass, also the 460 S&W has a case length of 1.800. which is longer than the 454 Casull.

Yes that is what I was wondering as far as bullet size... So it looks like I am good to go if I get my 454 rechamberd and while there at it throw a six hole scope mount and a muzzle tamer on it....

So is anyone shooting the 460 yet? How'd the rechamber go, btw?

I'm wondering if rechambering a 10" 454 would be a better route than just ordering a 460; any thoughts?

Give SSK a call and see what they think. You might save a lot of money with that route.  :D

I personally see no reason for it. Sure it will give you alittle more than the .454, but if your wanting more power why not get the .500? I`ve got 2 - .454`s and a .500 so I have no reason to get the .460, inless I run acrossed one that is just to cheap to pass up.

I guess it does not matter weather you see a reason for one.  :o

I have a Ruger 545 Casull and 2 500 MAG's. A 6 inch BFR and a 4 inch S&W 500. But the 460 would fit very nice between them and do things the 454 Casull or the 500 Mag can't.

Plus it never hurts to have another gun.  :D  8)
