Try 55 grs. of IMR 4350 with any good 130 gr. bullet. I use the 130 Partition or the Hornady Interbond. Both shoot 3/4" @ 100 yds. If your hunting elk you probably will want to go to the 150 gr. bullet.

Hard question.  The 270 will shoot great with numerous powders.  Each rifle is different.  However, one load I shoot has shot good in several different rifles.  People have borrowed bullets from me while hunting and the load always did a good job for them:

54 gr of W-760 over 130 gr speir @ 3.340 col

IMR 44350 is a good powder, H 4831 a better powder, and RL22 the best powder in my 270.  Shoot a lot with Nosler BTs, when go hunting use Solid Base or Partitions. I have killed multiple deer and elk with the above combos, including a couple 5x5 bulls with the 150 Solid Base, RL22 and Fed 210Match primers. The BTs probably work for deer, but I always use the Solid Base or Partitions for hunting.

Hi,

I use 58gr RL-22, 150gr Noler BT or Part, CCI LR primers and Win brass.  I get 2920 FPS and 1 1/4" groups.

Where did you kill that Boar.  I've killed Arkansas hogs many times, but nothing with a snout like that.  By the way, I think I've found out what powder Hornady uses in their 270 Custom loads.  58.5 H-4831 with 130 Interlock.  They get it in "GREAT" big lots so it may not be the same, but close. :shock:

Have you ever chronographed this load? If so, what velocities are you getting and what is the length of the barrel of your rifle?

Hey RAZMUZ,

I killed that hog on a preserve in NY.  I preserve hunt when I can't a fit a real hunt in.  It weighed 318lbs before it was dressed and had a 12.5" snout (tear duct to nose tip measured accurately per order of the taxidermist) and 4.5" of teeth showing (unbroken) on each side.

Thats a nice boar. I shot one in N.C. his teeth were 11/4 " he weighted 200lbs.

Hi All.

No...er...yes...I guess so.  It's from some game raising operation in Canada I expect.  The outfitter had more than 300 hogs and 5 were over 300lbs.  The other 4 were pretty piggy looking and fat, big jowels, fat gut, short snout.  This guy was...well....pretty boar like.  I've uploaded more pics of him under Old Stone Fence Hunting 2004.

I will say the 45/70 is almost perfect for this kinda hunting (or, most kinds really).
