Any book recommendations?

Anyone have any book recommendations to help with the mental side of my silhouette shooting? I'd also love any references to sources of info on what/how much to eat and drink on match days to try to keep away the jitters. I've been in other sports before, but the focus on those has been to peak at strength and speed at the beginning of a game. Those same tactics aren't working that great for me in the "try to be perfectly still and steady" game of silhouette.

Jason, there are a lot of books out there that will help you manage your mind.  "With Winning In Mind" by Lanny Bassham and "The Position Rifle Shooting" by Bill Pullum & Frank Hanenkrat are two of the best that I have read.

Thanks, folks. I've got both of those on the way to me right now and "The Art of the Rifle" should be ready for me to pick up at the library within a few days.

Ditto on both of the above recommendations, have read and learned from each book. Would add to the list a book also rec by someone on this forum (sorry forget the poster or would give credit) entitled "Competitive Shooting" by a Russian gent named A. A. Yur' Yev. It's about an encyclopedia of research from decades of coaching shooters at top levels. Available at the NRA bookstore, little pricey but a lot to chew on.

"The Ways of the Rifle" is expensive but very good, heavy on the technical side with interesting mental tips in inimitable German style: "Breaking the trigger is an act of daring and courage. MAKE YOUR RIFLE UNDERSTAND YOU!"

'Ways of the Rifle' is excellent. I've read it but don't have a copy.

If you want to read Yur Yev's 'Competitive Shooting', I have a copy that I'll lend you. (PM me a mailing address and promise to return it.)
It's good but dated. And, you would fall asleep reading it if you were standing barefoot on broken glass. The guy's writing style would cure terminal insomnia.

Yep, I'm in Washington. Nope, I'm not going to be at the Conard Cup. There was a bit of a mixup and the spot that Keith that he had for me had already been taken. I hate to miss out on it, but that just means I have more money for gear and practice ammo.
