New toy...
« on: April 17, 2005, 02:08:11 PM »
My wife (I love that woman!) surprised me with a Legend C and City Select software today. Having trouble getting it installed so I haven't been able to do much with it yet, but the screen sure is nice and bright and easy to read. I have all of my information saved on my Legend and MetroGuide software. Is there a way to transfer the data or am I starting all over with the new unit? I couldn't find the instructional DVD for the C, so looks like I have a lot of reading to do.

Congrats on the new gps.  Looking forward to reading about it.

I suspect that you can download and save your waypoints, tracks, and routes to your PC.  Then you can upload those three items to your Legend C.

I was able to do it from my Legend>to pc>pc waypoint, track, and route file to> GPsMap76C without any problems.  This was using Garmin's MapSource software to accomplishing the process.

I suspect you will be pleased with the extended battery life on top of all the other upgrades.

I found the video instruction tape at cabelas and was able to add it on to an order that was already pending, so that should be here sometime this week. I got a $50 rebate form to send to Garmin (I already know how long that takes), and the factory rep was at Basspro and was giving away the Lakes and Fishing Hot Spots software with any Garmin purchase. It's about $100 at Basspro, so not a bad deal. My wife is pretty excited about the fishing maps. I was also looking at the 60C, but I like the more compact Etrex series. Didn't need the electronic compass (I still carry a real one), so I got the Legend C. I think I can still smell the credit card smoking. Oh well, it's only money right?
The big thing for me is the easy to read screen. I can see the screen on the yellow etrex ok, but always had trouble with the Legend. The backlighting needs to be brighter or something. This one just jumps right out at you. It'll be great. I'm going to give the woods a couple weeks to settle down, then start doing some scouting for next year.

daddywpb:  I noted in your first post that you were having problems "getting it installed."  If you are referring to you loading maps from your pc to the Legend C be sure and run the CD that came with the new gps so that you have the Garmin USB drivers on your computer.  Otherwise you will not make a connection.

UPS delivered the video today. It's made by a company called Bennet Marine, and purchased from Cabelas. Totally worthless - VERY basic. Does not go into any of the details and options menus that the video about my Etrex and Legend do. The others were produced by GPS Outfitters. This one is going back to Cabellas. A waste of $10.
