m1 carbine case hanging up on clip
« on: April 06, 2005, 04:58:57 PM »
im using speer 110gr speer hollow points in my m1 carbine.. i am having trouble with the case mouth occasionally hanging up on the clip.. could be lots of stuff,.. one problem is i cant crush the case down with taper crimp a whole lot becouse the seater will crush the nose.. ive fired about 120 rounds thru it, could it be dirty?,  it just appears the case is sticking out more than factory ammo..  any suggestions appreciated.. dave..

First be certain the reloads are the same length as the factory loads.  Next remember the carbine is esentially a combat weapon, designed to fire ball ammo.  Perhaps deburring the magazine feed lips would help.  Strip the mag and use a diamond sharpening steel to remove burrs.  Don't change any shapes or angles.  You might also try seating the bullets and crimping in seperate steps..I know that's another pass thru the press but it will help..
