BSA or Swift Premier on R1 or R9?

About to settle in on an R1 or an R9.  Can't really afford a Leupold scope.  Straight Shooters recommends Swift Premier 3-9 or 4-12 as being good for magnum recoil levels.

I have also seen BSA's new AR scopes 2-7 and 3-12 highly recommended.

Anyone have any fairly long term history with these?

Of the 2 scopes you've mentioned, I'd go with the either one of the Swift scopes. They have a good reputation of standing up to the R-1 and R-9. The durability of new BSA line is still unknown, but in the past they haven't been so great.
 
If you're deciding between the R-1 and the R-9, how much do you want to spend, and how do you want to spend it? The R-1 with the Swift 3-9 scope and a decent mount will set you back about $625. The R-9 isn't quite as powerful but is a bit smaller and easier to handle. The R-9 Deluxe with the Leupold 3-9x33EFR and mount will be about the same as the R-1 set-up, and with the standard R-9 even less. You'll be giving up a couple foot-pounds of energy in exchange for less cocking effort and better optics, for the same price. The only thing is the R-9 only comes in .177 or .20. The HW 95(the non-Beeman version, same as the R-9) does come in .22, but prices have already gone up about $40 on them, to about $365, still less than the R-1 though.
Also, prices are going up right now on these guns, and quite a bit, so don't wait long to buy or it may cost you $30 or $40 more. D&R Sports haven't increased their prices yet, and have about the lowest prices you'll find.

Beeman's products are mostly Weirach (German) rifles and well made.

I have owned .177 Feinwerkbauw 300, RWS 45 and 48, side cocker. First was okay but erractic shooter, second was okay but never kept up power and erratic. Last was a whacker in .177 at 1000 fps and deadly accurate, but too heavy. Son shoots it now.

I also had a Beeman .22 RX2. Love it. Accurate and power to burn. Gas ram is only way to go, but rifle was too heavy 9+ #s and too hard to cock, particularly when I just had hernia operation.

I had an FX PPC, 1200 fps, repeater, but too nice for woods and too much trouble with refill, tanks etc. Rifle was a bit oud and long.

I ended up going with 6.5# BSA Lightning .22, that I bought for about $350 from Cobra Air in NY.

I sent to Dave Slade - Airgunwerks.com in CA for Gas Ram. Now shoots at about 702 fps with Beeman Silver Bears. Now looking for BSA Supersport Carbine barrel to use with same power system.

With its light weight and low cost, I do not think it can be surpassed for what I do - kill crows - but each person has preferences. I employ red dot sight on maxi rail, but may switch to BSA on Weaver rail conversion, if not too high for me...

BTW, in .177, a BSA Lightning gas rammed gun would be shooting kust over legit 1000 FPS.

Keep in mind that BSA Optics changed their manufacturing process two years ago to make a better product.  They have.  All the newer air rifle scopes are holding up very well under so called scope killers like the RWS 48/52, 350M and the Beeman Kodiak.  I am waiting for BSA to come out with an air rifle scope of higher magnification then the current 3-12X they are offering now(I have one on a TF99M that is working great).  BSA is a well know name in the manufacturing business.  Lawdog

the best deal is the goldfinger R9 with the bushnell banner scope allready mounted and a hard case for $403 shipped

not the goldfinger with a Simmons Airpro AO  6-18x40 and it is awesome..it was recommended by Arizona Airguns and is a great setup..Great knockdown power and the scope is a dream..good kill power at 40-50 yds..AA told me the Goldfinger scope wasn't that great and the reg r-9 and an upgraded scope was a much better combo for nearly the same money..jw

Gas ram seems to have lot's of benefits.  Is there anything not to like about Gas ram?
