I posted this at a other airgun site after they told me that my Crosman 3576W's power at 430 FPS was on the wimpy side. I posted this in reply and maybe some of you old timers here will agree with me as far as stuff we killed with our bb and pellet guns of the time. Jim
Went to the library and picked up a 1963 copy of the Gun Digest and looked up my old BB gun. It was a Crosman Model V-350. Power was high compression air and a velocity of 350 Muzzle. Now guys I always thought this one shot harder than my buddies Daisy model 25 but I suppose now they were about equal. That said I know we shot a lot of birds and ground squirrels with them and even some pigeons and at a distance of a lot longer than 10 yards shooting bb's not pellets. In fact this gun cost 12.95 back then while the other crosmans cost 20 to 30 bucks. Same prices for the Sheridan and Benjamin's in the 20 to 30 dollar price range. SO my gun was on the low end of the scale as I suppose were the Daisys in the price range of the air guns of that era. I know I chose the Crosman over the Daisys at the time as it had a wood stock and not plastic. I tell you I killed a lot of Gophers in the couple of years I used it until I got a 22 LR and since gophers had a bounty on them I bet I darn near paid for that gun shooting them plus they kept me in bb's. So yea compared to now days my 430 FPS pistol may be weak but it is sure a bit more powerfull than what I had way back then and I killed a lot of pest with that old gun. SO I just had to post this as I get a kick out of your guys comments about killing power. All we knew back then was they were not as powerful as a 22LR but they were all we had and they seemed to get the job done.
