Sighting in Fiber Optic sights.
« on: April 04, 2005, 12:17:16 PM »
For Christmas I got a nice set of fiber optic turkey sights to drop on to my 28" bbld 870.  The instructions that came with it suggested (and smartfully so I think) to use less energetic loadings to get the sights in the ball park.  So, my question is, will some trap/skeet/light field loads like the AAs or Federals work well enough to get me almost dead on windage wise and pretty close elevation wise?  Or should I move up to some 3" heavy field loads?

That's what I used, just standard high base loads, couldn't see wasting those $2+ a pop Hevi shot loads to get the sights close!!

:D Depends if you have windage and elevation on the sights. If you don't you had better pattern sights with what turkey load you decide to shoot. slik1

Thank you guys.
Yes the sights are fully adjustable for windage and elevation.  They are Tru Glo Magnum pro gobble dots (I believe thats the whole title.)

At what distance do you guys sight in? I have found at 15 yds. I can see where the massive wad of shot hits and can line that up. Then the center of the pattern is usually on at 40 yds.
I also have found that with the cylinder bore choke and slugs sighted in for deer hunting... the turkey loads with the turkey chocke are usually in line.
Just wondering what technique or distance you guys use,
Stan
