SBH-Hunter... Getting to know it better
« on: April 11, 2005, 03:15:48 PM »
:D

I am within my first month of owning my first single action revolver:  The Ruger Super Black Hawk - Hunter, 7-1/2" bbl, and in .44 Mag caliber.

Initially, I managed to get 2-2.5" groups at 50 yards and from 3 to 4 inches at 100 yards with 240 gr SWC cast bullets.  Later, I try some loads with jacketed bullets, 240 gr HP/XTP's over 12.5 gr of Blue Dot.  Results here were 4" groups at 50 yards.

I tried the same 240 gr XTP's over 18.0 gr of 2400 and the group shrink to 0.9" at 30 yards.

Try those 240 XTP's with some H110(23.8 gr). They gave me right around an inch at 50.
I'm still working on a plinking load for lead bullets. So far I've only been able to get about 4" at 50. Maybe that's all the better I can expect?

LJ...That sounds like some pretty good hunting accuracy there...I'd be pretty happy with that...Of course if I was shooting that good I would want to get even better still.  Good luck...

Sounds like the XTP's are the way to go.

XTP's and I am going to give the 2400 a chance to beat out the 296 for the 2005 Deer season thanks to a J Taffin article.  :D
