Cabezaverde;

NO YOU CANNOT!

The 45 ACP cartridge headspaces off its case mouth and the 45 Auto Rim cartridge headspaces off its rim.  The cylinder is made only for 45 ACP cartridges and the 45 Auto Rim cartridges will not chamber because of its rim.  The 45 Auto Rim cartridges will also fail to chamber in the 45 Colt cylinders because the 45 Auto Rim’s rim is too thick.

Happy Shooting,

Cabezaverde.

You can get a cylinder made to work with the 45 auto rim. Unless you have a bunch of the rimmed ammo it would not be practical..........Joe.........

Wait. Wasn't the .45 AR designed to be used in US M1917 Colt and S&W revolvers chambered for the .45ACP cartridge? OR am I remembering incorrectly?

Yes, but those revolvers were designed to work only with moon clips. They headspaced off the clips, not the case mouths like a Blackhawk. That's why the .45 ar rim is so thick. It is the thickness of the .45acp rim plus the thickness of the moon clip.
