Ruger Single Six Bisley in 22mag?
« on: March 13, 2005, 05:18:01 PM »
I think I've searched the entire WWW and I can't find the answer to my queston, so I thought someone here could help.  Can a rimfire bisley be made to shoot 22mag's?  Maybe using a 22mag cylinder from a regular single six (I now own both the bisley and the regular single six)?  Has anyone tried this?  If this isn't possible (without going custom), why not?  Is it dangerous?  Thanks in advance

My son has a Bisley and we wanted a Magnum Cylinder for it. I bought an extra magnum cylinder from ebay. I got a stainless for $40. I figured it was a shot in the dark and if it didn't work we could always sell it again.
The main issue as far as I was concerned was to make sure it was timed OK. I figured with the pressures involved it wouldn't be an issue. As I understand it a .22 LR bore is .223 while a .22 Mag. is .224. I'd say the cases take a little stiffer push with the ejector rod to punch the magnums out than it does to push out the LR's but cases examined IN OUR PISTOL seem to be OK. I can't promise you you won't have problems. I'd really like to shoot these things across a chrono to check the speed.

Wht did you do to make sure the timing was correct?  That is one of the things you would want to be exact.  Close enough would/could be hazardous to your health.

The whole thing was a shot in the dark so to speak. The timing just worked out to be OK. If anything had been wrong I would have just sold the cylinder and gave up on it.
