LIGHT 708 LOAD NEEDED
« on: April 07, 2005, 08:21:52 AM »
I'm looking for a light 708 load (120 to 140gr.) for c,p,t, for a junior shooter. I already have the rifle and it fits her just right... so the Cal. is set. We have a good Ram load for it already but it's a bit much for her to shoot for all four animals.
Thanks
P.S. good luck to all you shooters going to Phx. for the AZ State Championships

I started my kids off with 35.5 grains of IMR 4064 CCI primers and 139gr Hornady. Ballistically, this is better than a 30-30. Produces 1 shot kills out to 150 + yards. They are older now but since all our shots are under 200 yards I stopped at 39 grains of 4064. Max is something like 42 grains.

If you need more stopping power you can use the 162 grain points.

I use 36.0 grains of Varget with Sierra 140 gr. SBT's for C,P,T with excellent results. Muzzle velocity is around 2500 out of my Tikka M595.

According to a really good source, 34.0 grains of Varget also produces excellent groups and should provide enough energy to reliably knock the pigs over.

Best of luck,

You won't find a lighter or more accurate load than this. 23.0 grs. of IMR-SR-4759 behind a 150 SMK. I have used it out to the turkeys. It only clocks around 2000fps. so you have to pay attention to the wind.

We shoot reduced distance high power silhouette at our club in staten island. i have always used the 168 gr sierra matchkings there and at full 500 meter range. this year i decided to use a lighter bullet at our club (200 yard) the 130 grain sierra matchking was my choice. with 40.3 grains of reloader 15,  Rem. cases  fed 210 match and the bullet touching the lands it will shoot  .650@200 yards. The recoil is very mild(fun to shoot). THIS IS  A GREAT REDUCED RECOIL LOAD.... GOOD LUCK
