Anyone want a 280 Rem cheap?
« on: April 07, 2005, 04:48:00 PM »
NEF 280 rem

No I'm not selling but I did bid on it.  Gunbroker.com has one listed with the starting bid of $149.  So I bid top bid of $150.  It's mine so far but am having serious second thoughts.

I don't NEED it and have other things I should get more so someone PLEASE buy it out from under me.

This thing looks brand new and the s# is Serial #NP2773xx, this came from the seller. Standard wood stock.

If I gave you $100 for it, you'd only be out $50 on the transaction.  How bad do you want to get rid of it?   :)

If I end up buying it, I'll keep it.  It's worth more than $150 just thought someone here might be looking for one.

You should be able to find a dealer that will charge a lot less than that, they start at $5 and up, average is probably $20-$25 here, I paid $20 on the last 2 that I bought. Some charge sales tax if you are affected by that, but the honest dealers won't since they aren't handling the sale, just the transfer on the receiving end. I used the handy link at Gunbroker to find local FFL transfer agents in my area.

It will be right at $200 total.  It's $30 for the transfer and $20 shipping.  But like I said if anyone else is interested please bid.  A bid of $151 gets it.

OK someone outbid me, so now you're on your own, I'm off the hook.  Hope it was someone from GB's.

Next time I'll make sure I'm ready to buy first, DUH!

I would be awfully surprized if the winning bid is anything under $200.

Wow, it went for $155! Someone got a steal.  After shipping and transfer fees it should come out to just under $200. Not bad for a like new Handi in .280 Rem.

For someone still looking, Wal-Mart (at least here in Great Falls) carries Handis, including the 280 Remington for $184.00. No shipping or transfer fees. As of last Monday, they had a 280 on hand that someone had special ordered, then failed to pick up.

I just bought a Handi rifle on Gun Broker in .280 Remington for $150 plus  $30 shipping plus $2.60 insurance.  The ad says it was fired less than 20 times and it has the base and rings on it.  This is the first Handi rifle I've ever owned but I've been following the forum here for a few months and you guys got me interested.  It will be interesting to see how much velocity that 26" barrel will generate.  I just got 500 Winchester nickel-plated cases and 1,000 Remington 150 grain CoreLokt bullets so I'm all set for load development.

Dakota R,  also in the FAQ you will find the 2004 list of UPC codes for H&R/NEF rifles currently sold by Walmart, the link is there also to go to their current catalog so you can find the firearm you are looking for, print the page, take it to Walmart and place an order after they check availability, they don't need to carry it in stock for you to order it, all you pay is the cost as if they had it in stock, it usually takes from 3 days to a week for the firearm to arrive.

You can get a good handle on whether the firearm is in stock by checking Sports South's internet gun inventory since they are Walmart's supplier, if they have it in stock, hopefully it will still be in stock when Walmart checks availability at the time you order. Use the Mega search at the bottom of the page, select H&R 1871 as the Mfr, and long guns from the category, then select the caliber.

Dakota,
I don't know what other NEFs they stock. A friend mentioned that it was there and I had to go look at it. But I think they stock a few NEFs.
