I wish USRAC would chamber a rifle for the .358 Winchester cartridge.  Either a Model 70 Fwt. or one of the new Sporters would do.

How about a 7400 carbine.......would make a great black bear rifle. Or how about one of the new Spartan side by side doubles?  It would make a great black bear rifle with a African flair.

It seems like Winchester would chamber this cartridge that has their headstamp. How about a re-introduction of the Model 88?  :-D  They have re-issued many old classics under there name or Browning's over the past years, so why not the 88? Even at $800-1000 a copy, I'm sure they would sell a decent number of guns.

Winchester does offer the Custom Short Action from the Custom Shop in .358 Win.  How badly do you want one? MSRP is 2k plus, but the Custom shop does excellent work.

While we're at it, a batch of Model 70s in .300 Savage wouldn't be a bad idea, either.

I vote for the model 100. To my knowledge it was not made in .358 Win., but both gun and cartridge might have been a lot more popular if it was.

Although I would still like the Model 88, I'll take a Model 70 FWT in a heartbeat!

I called USRAC today and suggested that they make a run of Model 70s in 6mm Remington, 250 Savage, 257 Roberts, 7x57 Mauser, .300 Savage, and .358 Winchester.  I don't know if it will do any good but the worst they can do is say no.

Dad had one several years ago.  It was NIB and grease.  He cleaned it up and shot it!   Very accurate but it kicked like a mule.  So much kick he added weight inside the forearm.

Dad and many 70's like that are gone now.  Only two left are a 308 FW from 1952, and  Std Wt 270 from 1951.  All cleaned and preserved as vintage rifles.  A friend of mine has a really nice first year (1935) 3006.

If you really want a Winchester rifle in .358, you could buy one in .308 and for around $200-$250 have it bored out to the new cartridge.  There are many gunsmiths who can do this.  James Dubell at (509) 684-5855, John Taylor at john@johntaylormachine.com or Siegrist Gun Shop at (989) 873-3929 come to mind right off.

Seems a few of us bought the BLR in 358W.

I have one of the new Alloy model 81 and am quite happy with it.
I would think Winchester / Browning would  really start  selling this chambering if they would do something with the price of Ammo.

Now if you want to reload- your going to be a very happy camper.

As a matter of fact , of the lads that have the 358, I have yet to hear a complaint , other than they wished there was more selection than the winchester one loading.

For the eastern hunter that wants a all arround big game rifle for mixed bush and farmland, the 358W has quite a following here in central Ontario.
The rifles are holding the price as few are being traded in . People tend to hand on to the 358W and when a used unit comes along they tend to go fast.
Now I was looking for some thing that was fast handling , could put a big hole though a big black bear and leave a good blood trail.
From what I have heard the 358W is the ticket to anchor that bear quickly at last light.
Well in a few weeks we see if I can find a moose for his opinion.

So have a look at the BLR. It 's got a beauitiful recoil pad, and I don't notice the recoil . I would say it's more like the parent 308W.Some say between the 308W and the 3006.
I would say Browning knew what they were going.

Rebore an Auto or pump ? Think that too  would be Awsome.

Then again they offer the whelan, and you have a better selction of factory ammo if you do not want to roll your own
Happy
