natural castor mounds
« on: April 10, 2005, 11:24:10 AM »
I found 3 actual castor mounds where I'm trapping right now, and I set a fake one and a 330 right next to a real one.

I guess I'm just wondering how often beaver check their mounds, or do they check their mounds on a somewhat regular basis?

I personally like to make my own castor mounds so I can dictate where I set the trap.  There is nothing wrong setting existing mounds many beaver have been and will be taken that way.  One suggestion on setting existing mounds is to put lure at the location to get the beaver to freshen the mound up.

A beaver will on an almost daily basis check out his territory.  And if he doesnt happen to come by on a given night maybe a traveler will and you will get him.
