Weaver Base Cleanup
« on: April 04, 2005, 05:23:55 AM »
I've bought a couple of used barrels now for my contender that have had weaver brand bases on them.  I prefer the Warne weaver style bases on certain barrels that I swap scopes across using the warne QD rings.

Question is, the weaver brand bases that I have removed have some type of adhesive film under them that makes a mess of the barrel surface.

What is the best method of cleaning this stuff off without adversely affecting the blueing?

maybe extra loctite from mounting screws.  I have used a small tourch or lighter and the stuff goes up in flames.

I use my finger nail and a little gun solvent to remove it. It sounds like lock tite. :D

For heavy recoiling guns (rifle or pistol) I mix up a little bedding compound to fill any voids between the gun and the mount.  That comes off with a little solvent and some work with a soft scraper.

Used WD40 and a plastic scraper.  Mission accomplished.
