Interested in the old ways of the woods?
« on: April 12, 2005, 10:30:48 AM »
I've been concerned for years that we are losing all that knowledge we gleaned from our Dads, Grandpas, and favorite uncles. I've started a website in an effort to preserve some of that knowledge. There's not much there right now but the brand-new forums, I hope to use them to flesh out the rest. I sure don't know it all myself. I'm not pushing the site hard, I'd rather have a few quality folks there than a bunch of "me too" guys. I thought the folks on this forum would be likely to have an interest.

The site is geared toward pre-1950 woodscraft, and while modern technology isn't forbidden I hope we can stay focused more on the old ways. If you've ever read authors like Nessmuk, Kephart, Kreps, Baden-Powell, Col. Askins, Angier and such, you already know what I have in mind. You can find the site here: www.woodscraft.net . Registration is required, but free, and I'm not moderating new registrations unless I have to do so in the future. There will be little moderation, I'll trust folks to be reasonable and polite until they prove otherwise - just like the old-timers would have.

Butler - I could find nothing in the rules here that said I shouldn't post this. If I am wrong about that, please accept my apology and delete this thread.

Hey Bob....

I haven't been to your site yet but am going.  I'm just finishing the first Foxfire book and have found it quite interesting, informative and entertaining. The wife and I have both tried to keep some of the old skills alive.  Good luck and thanks for the tip.
