Author Topic: Picked up a Superblackhawk Hunter today. (Read 735 times)

Well my world of rev. has been a sort lived one. My first rev. was bought only 2 weeks ago. It was a Rossi .357 mag. . What CRAP in 2 weeks i went though 2 of them. One had very bad blow back, the other in three days the firing pin brock off of it.

I was so mad that I was about to go though 3 guns in 2 weeks, I was done with the gun.

Anyhow I returned to the gun shop and the owner witch I know took the gun back and said I have to chooses, 1 waite 3 weeks to get a new ROSSI or trade it in on something else.

So, I traded it in on a SBH Hunter 7.5 inch bll and it is SS in .44MAG. with rings.

WoW what a diff. you can feel the better make of gun in your hand and when I took it apart for a fast cleaning you can see the craftman ship is way above ROSSI. Shots frigen awesome too.

I ended up with 375.00 total dollars in the new SBH. I hope I got a good deal, I still do not know much about them.

PS. Also REDHAWK1, you were right bud, I should have stayed away from ROSSI. I will treat wheelguns like my semi-autos from now on. "YOU GET WHAT UP PAY FOR".

Is this a okay gun? How should it hold up overtime, and what does the redhawk have over the blackhawk?

Hey House, Congratulations on your new SBH Hunter. I got one a couple of months ago and love it. Mine has a Bisley grip and is not that bad to shoot. I am fairly new to big bore revolvers too, so don't have alot of experience, but have probably shot about 140 rounds through it so far. Have been using Hornady 200 gr and 240 gr XTP, Winchester 250 gr partition and the Winchester 240 gr soft nose that comes in the white box w/50 rounds. I have also shot a couple of shot rounds through it I plan on using on rattlesnakes on my deer lease in W Texas. The price you paid is good, I paid $479 for mine. Now I am hooked and plan on getting a 41 and a 45 some day not that I need one, but would like one.

HouseofCash, congratulations on the Blackhawk, I know you will be a lot happier. As far as the difference between the Redhawk & the Blackhawk is the way the recoil is different. The Redhawk come's more straight back and up at you and the Blackhawk rolls more in your hand. And other then the obvious single action and double action. The gun will last you a long time.

Congrats on the SBHH...It is a great gun. I bought mine last October and I love it...The recoil is manageable shooting mag loads. I actually enjoy shooting it more than my 9mm. It is easy to tear down, clean and re-assemble...You will love this gun. Let us know if you plan to scope it or shoot it with open sites.

Well, I would like to scope it, but, I would like to get it tuned in with open sights first also. I'm having a little bit of a hard time doing this. I was shotting today at 80 feet open sights and although i was hitting the 8 ring and in every time I was not shotting groups at all, they we all just 8 ring and in. I do not know if it is because of the guns sights or me. I have never shot a long bbl rev. befor and the only thing I have close to it is my 44mag./.50ae desert eagles, and if I may add is totally different from shotting this black hawk. So it could have been me and not the sights at all. I was also shotting of hand. Should I be sighting the gun in on a rest or table?

But, I will keep every one up to date on how the sighting goes. What scopes should I be looking for, red dot or cross hair and what power? Any tips on sighting this gun in open sights would be nice too.

i had the same experience with super blackhawks that you did with rossi. except i owned all the guns that broke on me, not anymore!
i hope you have better luck with the sbh's than i did.

HouseofCash, don't let one persons bad experience discourage you. I am sure all guns have had problems.

You will find a lot more people the have had great success with the Blackhawks. As well you will find a lot more have had problems with Rossi.

Just keep us updated on you blackhawk.

Hey House,

Sounds like some decent shooting with open sights. My experience has been the first few times of shooting I kept shooting to the left mostly. Adjusted the rear sight and started shooting more and more to the right. Adjusted more to the left again and am now centering most of my shots. To me it seems you just have to shoot alot, learn not to flinch and then you will be able to put shots where you want them. This is at 25 yrds. My confidence is way up now and I feel I can hit what I am shooting at if it is a reasonable distance. Going to try some longer range shooting next. Also, I found out the little pin under the rear sight can slide out a little so you might want to put some locktite on it.

I had a slight problem with grip consistency with my SBH Hunter...I bought a Hogue grip and all that went away. I just had a problem with the laminate grip slipping around in my hand when I had gloves on so I fixed it with a new grip. Some will cry sacriledge but I don't care...As long as I can hit the target and bring home the bacon(so to speak).
