That story sounds like the same noises I had after purchasing a Lohman howler.......couldn't get anything like a howl out of it. Likely it was my fault though. Since that call is no longer with me......I now use a Primos "hot dog" and it's real easy for me,, anyway,, to use and make the sounds needed. It also came with a dvd that shows proper use and alot of hunts featuring Randy Anderson.
I know there's many calls out on the market that will make the sounds they're supposed to make...... it just takes alot of practice and the proper placement///pressure of the lips on the reed.
I'm pretty new to this stuff too,,,haven't called any in yet,,,but there isn't a lot of yotes in my area either. It's the anticipation to see one for me,,and I enjoy just being out in the woods.
