I just received my rifle back from H&R with its new .410/45 Colt barrel. I have a question about the choke. Do you leave the choke in or remove it when shooting 45 colt?

Always Take It OUT when shooting Any type Slugs!
Certainly 45 bullets Datil

I did not think you could leave it on but I noticed it had striations that looked like a continuation of the rifling but the bore looked to small for the 45 Colt slug.

Next step I am having the sights replaced, blade with brass bead front and semi-buckhorn rear. The barrel came with only a brass bead shotgun front sight.

are the riflely in the choke tube straight or curved ? if they are straight its for a shotshell

You would think that H&R/NEF would send a warning about taking the choke out before shooting 45 colt loads.That sounds like a accident waiting to happen to me. :?

ya know I have never seen one of these barrels...I presume it's rifled all the way down the bore....might just be a fun barrel to add to the collection.....( I'd prolly cut the barrel down though.... :roll: )

I agree. There was no mention of it in the material sent with the rifle and the new barrel. Only warning was one about not attaching the barrel to a receiver other then this one.

I have a .45/410 survior. This is one fun gun when shooting the .45 colt TAKE OUT THE CHOKE it is a barrel obstruction (stops the shot from spinning). I reload for the .45 colt and with .45acp bullseye equivalent loads it sounds strange and shoots high (very about 2 feet) and to the left (very about 2 feet ) at 100 yds. With hotloaded 300grn it shoots about right at 100 yds. Even with the change in sighting my barrel groups about 3 in at 100 yds with both loads. When shooting the .410 with the choke I get regular full choke .410 patterns. With out the choke I get a do nut shaped pattern at about 15 yds. I've also experimented with using .445supermag brass belled out to take a .452 slug. These work ok With this longer brass both loads now hit to the same point of aim. To fire form these loads I just use near max loads listed in most manuals.

i have this same gun, its a fun little gun to shoot. But anyways, mine did come with a warning and directions on when to use the choke tube. Just thought id get that out there.
