I don't know if you live in a cold climate, but reliability in cold weather is likely to be an issue with the auto too.
Ive been there. I know people think it dont happen much, but it does.
Given your applications I wonder why you would want to carry a 1911. I'd pick something better suited to hunting and the taking of animals.
Now dont get me wrong, I have shoot some smaller game with my 1911s in .45. But I do not feel it is a good hunting round and I would not rely on it for a sure hunting shot. The 1911 is best suited for 2 legged animals that come in your windows at night. I hate to say it to, i love the 1911s and would take them over any handgun made and I time and time agin.
But, if you want a 1911 and you have your personal reasons for wanting one, or you really think it is what you need in a handgun, Im all for that and I do not want to try to change your mind. So, I would go with Springfield. Im to the point now were that is all I will shoot in 1911s. I have 2 Kimbers left and by Monday they will be gone. Im not sure what Ill replace them with yet, but there are a few more Springfields on my list.
I think you will be happy with the Springfield, but before you buy rule out all of you options. Dont for get about some really nice 10MM, 41MAG and 44MAG. rev. out there that would make good sidearms too and most in the 1911s price range if you keep your eyes open.
I think the sights on the 1911 GI will hurt you the most. The old style. The sights on a REV. might be a little more suited for taking a game shot.
Just MHOs.
Dave.
